Hello World: Why We Built AWR Shift
By AWR Shift Research
The Problem We’re Solving
Search is changing. Over 40% of Google searches now trigger AI Overviews. ChatGPT has 800 million weekly active users. Perplexity, Gemini, and other AI engines are becoming primary information sources for millions.
For content creators, this means a fundamental shift: your content needs to rank in traditional search engines AND get cited by AI answer engines.
What Is GEO?
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing content to be surfaced and cited by AI-powered search engines. While SEO focuses on ranking in Google’s organic results, GEO focuses on getting your content cited in AI-generated answers.
The two aren’t mutually exclusive — in fact, they share many fundamentals. But GEO requires additional signals:
- Structured data that AI engines can parse
- Authoritative citations that establish credibility
- Clear, factual claims that AI can confidently reference
- Comprehensive coverage that answers the full question
Our Approach
We built a 7-stage pipeline that handles both SEO and GEO optimization:
- S0 — Planning: Client profile loading and configuration
- S1 — Strategy: Keyword research, competitor analysis, content strategy
- S2 — Outline: Structure generation with H2/H3 hierarchy
- S3 — Research: Fact gathering from tiered sources
- S4 — Generation: Section-by-section article creation
- S5 — Verification: Fact-checking and claim validation
- S6 — Optimization: SEO and GEO signal enhancement
- S7 — Quality Gate: 41 evaluators score the final output
Every article on this blog goes through this pipeline. We’re not just building tools — we’re using them, measuring the results, and sharing what we learn.
